The problem isn’t hiring young people – it’s keeping them
Manufacturing still attracts young talent.
Curious, skilled, motivated people.
They show up – but they don’t always stay.
Why?
It’s not the work.
It’s how they’re led – and how (or if) they’re included.
We talk about a new generation, but often lead like the last one.
And we call people “digital natives” – then give them zero digital connection to their workplace.
The result?
Disengagement. Frustration. High turnover.
If we want to retain young employees, we have to stop managing them like they’re lucky to be here.
And start leading them like we want them to grow here.
That means real communication.
Not just morning meetings.
That means inclusion – not just a login.
That means rethinking how leadership actually shows up on the floor – every day.
Young people aren’t the problem.
The systems around them are.
